The Summer Queen
The Bloodsong Series Book I
Strange things are happening in Muriel Grayson’s safe plodding routine of eat-sleep-work-repeat. Not just strange. Unusual. Transforming. She’s hearing the clarion call of adventure.
Leaving her job and old name behind, she revisits a dream of becoming an archaeologist, by applying to attend a summer dig in coastal Yorkshire. Led by the British poster boy for archaeology, Jack Shepherd, the dig is trying to locate a bronze age burial site. The newly named Samantha Grayson arrives on site and is immediately at odds with Jack Shepherd over the dig location.
Through studying local folklore, myth and legend, Samantha’s adventure becomes a personal odyssey, an obsession to find the burial site on her own. Along the way she makes new friends and finds allies in her quest. She uncovers her courage, her self-belief and undergoes emotional shifts and spiritual experiences that are so profound and closely entwined, she no longer sees any separation between them.
And on one, truly magical afternoon, amongst the sand dunes, the truth is revealed.

A beautiful read with mystical edge. I loved the journey of the main character and it shows no matter that your age there is always another path in life to take yourself. More from Susan please!

This book was a beautiful read. From the moment I started I was hooked and it was a real page-turner for me. Was sorry to finish it! The story was very absorbing and I really felt part of Samantha’s journey. The subject is well researched and the characters so engaging. All in all a lovely, lovely book with a promise of another adventure to follow. Bring it on, I’m ready for the next one!
Cheryl Chapman:
This is Susan’s first novel, but she has complete control of her story and style. The characters feel real to me. The story gripped me and kept me turning pages. Would recommend the book to older readers.

“Completely absorbing storytelling. I loved this book. It is the second of a trilogy, yet stands alone too. A tale of love’s ups and downs in the modern world with a story within the story of a woman from ancient times. Impossible to describe, if you love myth and fantasy, archaeology and stories, I can highly recommend this book. I am very much looking forward to the third volume of the trilogy.”

All The Queen’s Children
The Bloodsong Series Book III
Samantha Shepherd is once again setting out on a quest: to prove that she lived her Bronze Age ancestor’s life, which would also validate her theories about her ancestor’s origins. And she is leaving her husband, Jack Shepherd, behind. Literally.
With very little to go on, other than instinct and Moira’s oblique references, Samantha looks for the Star Circle, an ancient stone temple, and the living descendants of Moira’s son, Niall Torren. Following a trail that has been cold for thousands of years, she once again finds help as she travels to the Netherlands, a magical Yorkshire farm, Norway and a small village in the Cotswolds.
Back home, archaeologist Jack Shepherd has his own problems to deal with. The past has come back to haunt him in a very tangible way, kickstarting him on a journey through his own personal history; some of it hundreds of years old, some of it more recent. He needs to talk to Samantha and keeps asking himself the same three questions – will she come home? Will she support his new business?
And most important of all, will she accept his son?

Read the Moon Queen and then had to get the expanded first and last one on e-books… nearly finished the last one and then will start again… lovely, lovely stories – thank you.

I loved the first two volumes in Susan Burton’s trilogy ‘The Bloodsong Series’, so when I received Book III ‘All The Queen’s Children’, I couldn’t resist diving straight in – and barely surfaced until I rather reluctantly turned the last page. This is one of those books I didn’t want to end, but couldn’t read slowly. The wonderful thing about skilful writing such as this is that there is always more to discover on each subsequent time of reading – I have already enjoyed Book I: ‘The Summer Queen’ again and will soon be opening ‘The Moon Queen’ once again. If you enjoy real life mingled with the magic of another reality (that feels equally real), you will love these stories.
